I notice that the newly upgraded Fallen Flags format sorts all postings by date of the post regardless of which Fallen Flag to which it was posted. This makes it inconvenient when I wish to refer to an older post that may have dropped off the list of top 25 or 50 latest posts. Before the upgrade, Fallen Flags were sorted alphabetically, then the posts within each Flag were sorted by date of post making it easier to locate a specific post topic or thread.

I realize that I never should criticize without offering a solution, but I cannot think of one at the moment, other than returning to the previous format, which apparently had drawbacks that I wasn't aware of or it would not have been dropped.

That's not getting implemented until they get 100 votes on that poll. Maybe we'll see how it works once it happens.

Oh, wait. It HAS been implemented, and I can't find the poll and initial posting about the change, and I guess we moved ahead anyway.

Well, I believe there is a way to search in just that forum for certain prefixes. Maybe a moderator will weigh in here and let us know how do it.

    I'm an ex-Moderator but I believe I can help...

Actually Yes you can search / limit the list to certain Prefix values. A quick-n-dirty path is just below the topics you will find a section titled "Thread Display Options" and you can pick say Prefix "DH" and only the D&H forum topics will show up. If you are looking for 2+ prefixes then use the "Advance Search" option with the FF forum and you can select which FF Prefixes you only wish to look at.

    Make Since?

It has apparently been implemented, as I tried to go to the NY Central forum to unstick any stickies that were there, and the forum is gone. I don't think we had any stickies, anyway.

    Jim-

There were some stickies, but I have cut them all loose.

Given the fact that almost nobody posted in those forums which is probably why we didn't get 100 votes, it cannot possibly be a concern in the near term to find any thread.

I would like to add a negative comment about the new FF format.

I missed an initial post to the NYC Forum by Jim (Fitz) on 6/8, I assume because his as yet unread post title next to the FF Forum header had been obscured or displaced by a later post. I was under the impression that all unread posts would be listed to the right of the FF header on the Main page, but apparently that was not the case with Jim's post on 6/8. The only reason I became aware of Jim's post today was because I opened the FF Forum rather than just glancing at the right-hand column for new posts.

Another question/comment concerning the new FF format. Is there a way to post to a seldom viewed FF Forum, e.g. B&M, without searching through multiple pages to locate its header? Is there a command or technique where I can go directly to the B&M Forum without searching?

Personally, I preferred the old FF format because I could see if there were any new posts indicated by the blinking icon on the Main page. Then after opening to the FF page, quickly glance for blinking icons at known sub-forum locations, e.g. B&M, NYC, etc.

The problem was that there were almost never any blinking new post icons ever in the fallen flags section. Just a bunch of webpage used up for places nobody posted.

Anyway, I'm confused by your issue.

There isn't a B&M forum anymore. There is only the FF forum. And posts should be listed most recent (replied) to oldest. Regardless of the header tag.

YoHo, not knowing what the "official" identification is for each of the FF sub-categories, e.g. NYC, BNSF, etc., I used the term "sub-folders".

Returning to my second concern, I see no way to initiate a thread to a specific Fallen Flag, like Fitz did with his post to the NYC Fallen Flag on 6/8. Nor do I see a way to locate older posts on a specific Fallen Flag, e.g. B&M.

Can you help me? Thank You.

    Sure thing.

First, when you are in Fallen Flags and click on Post new thread, you will be presented with the "Your Message" area where you write the post. At the top of that is a box marked "Prefix:"

This contains the drop down list of all the valid prefixes for the FF forum. If you were in a different forum like say Z-scale, you would see something different.

All you need to do is scroll the list to find the appropriate Prefix and select it.

    As for search.

What you need to do is choose Advanced Search. Under Advanced search, scroll down to "Additional Options" and the Search by Prefix: option (and the search by forum option)

Do note that this lists every single prefix from all forums, not just FF, so you have to scroll down a bit. Also, I have no idea why there are 2 fallen flags forums listed.

The first one is the category and the second one is the forum.

I will change the name of one of them to avoid confusion.

Would making each of the roads at the top of the reference, hotlinks to the searches for those roads be possible?

So like: C&O, Cheasapeak and Ohio.

That way it's seconds to pull up the specific searches.
