Hi everyone. I now there is not much traffic here but here goes.
I saw some videos on youtube showing F-7s in the 70s. Since I model a very small scale and have to make a lot of my own stuff, could anyone tell me what size buzzsaws were used on the F-7s???
And any Mopac modelers out there with an airbrush full of Jenk's blue up for a challenge??

By "Buzzsaws" (this shows my ignorance) are your referring to the roof fans?

You can google a search and most likely find answers to your questions. Google: EMD F7 Parts List

    Sorry, I don't know. But I couldn't let you be ignored...either.

Just curious but what scale are you modeling?

Assuming you're talking about after the Jenks blue repaint, the buzzsaws should be 18" diameter. These are abundant in Microscale set 60-74, Missouri Pacific Diesels (1962-1974). Pre '62 they were in the Eagle paint scheme so I imagine you wouldn't be asking about buzzsaws in that case so...

As for painting, I'd be happy to help but getting them moved back and forth could be a bear. Is there a club (like the FREMO groups) or hobby shop near you that might be able to better assist?

I think we lost our friend.

    Scared him off?

Eagle, I think you answered his question.

If not. Hoping he finds the answers he's looking for.

    HI.
Not scared off just a different time zone.
I do Z scale, and people tend to poke fun at that. A guy in another forum said just paint a red dot.
I did find sombody who does Mopac heralds and they said they thought they were 24 inch. I wish I knew 100 percent. Were they the same size on the nose as on the front? I have some pics but it is hard to tell. I was wondering about how they were numbered also.
Being in Germany is kind of a pain. There are a lot of American railroad fans over here and even some in Z. I was hoping to catch some Mopac modelers in the States.
    Thanks !!

If memory servers, the F-7's were in the 800 series numbers until the last one was retired in 1972. Also, the buzzsaw being 18" sounds about right. Since I'm not at home, I don't have my research material at hand.

Another point to maybe make it easier - from looking at a variety of photos, the buzzsaws are just about the same diameter as the headlights on the nose. So if the decal and the model's headlight are the same size, roughly, it should be close enough.

Good to know we didn't scare you off.

Z Scale is A-OK in my world of thinking. No need to be embarrassed. Just think of the layout you can have.

I model N scale and get razzed about it. "Blind Scale" is the one I hear most often.
Heck, if I'm happy with what I'm doing then it don't much matter, what others think.

    Right?

Another tricky question..were they the same size on the size as the nose? Where the ones different for single vs double headlights?

Trying to keep this simple enough for me to understand (which can be difficult)

After a long look at a couple of pictures, the two headlight F's had the buzzsaw as I described, same size as the headlight, both on the nose and the sides

The single headlight F's had the same size buzzsaw on the sides, with a slightly larger one on the nose (rough guess it looks to be between 20 and 24 inches, but that's just a flat out guesstimation)

    Hope this helped
