David Popp has written about this in the book "Building a Model Railroad Step by Step". I found this while searching for options on what I'd like to do...Add a power plant along my layout edge to provide an endpoint for my coal trains. Currently I have a double siding off the main that runs about 3.5" from the layout edge. There is some room for industry, but very limited. Thought I had is to add 3" of width to that edge to give me 6.5" of clearance and have that siding become a coal dump for the power plant. Has anyone else done this type of expansion? Here's a snippet of the book I'm referring to... https://books.google.com/books?id=v...D#v=onepage&q=industry edge of layout&f=false
This isn't exactly it, but gives a visual for the area in question. It would be at the center of the layout, bottom of the track plan (not the red track extension) http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?media/new-n-scale-layout.125842/full&d=1452261396 Dave
Yes. I have (N Scale) in the past done this same thing. A friend of mine did it with his HO layout(s), and it worked just fine.
