Those and how about the phone booths? I don't see them on the list. They were the best. Maybe they forgot? Jim

    Thanks, Kurt
It is a favorite of mine, too. I'm a bit disappointed it isn't being re-issued. It is the only stainless kit in the bunch maybe that has something to do with it. Jim

Nice work Jim. I wish I went with gray roads instead of black. It’s easier to weather and show details.

Most of the buildings are from townbuilder. They are long gone. My friend Karen made me some custom laser cut building, plus kits from Twin Whistle, StoneBridge Designs, Nansen Street, and Micron Arts.

    Hi, John
I used Woodland Scenics ST1453 Asphalt Top Coat. I find it to be the right color and consistency for the base and then black top coat (C1220) for patches, etc...I use thinned coats for different aged patches. I totally missed the Townbuilder's series. I would have liked a 5 & 10 cent store. I have all of Twin Whistle. Their fire station is actually based on an actual one right here in Boston (West Roxbury) Ladder 25, Engine 30. I see a Kibri factory roof shed in the background. This kit is a mountain of details for scattering around. Jim

Robert, they make like four fire station, a White Castle, and a police station. I used the last one to converted it into Stony’s restaurant.

Good job, John. I have the same idea for the police station, making it into a restaurant based on precinct 6 in South Boston (long gone.) It will be called "6 House" My White Castle is joined at the hip to the Snowden Theater kit from Animek. I really like what you are doing. Nice to meet other urban railroading modelers. Jim

I’m not sure whether to be happy or not... If Miller Engineering makes 100 of each and advertises in Z Track magazine anyone who misses that announcement will not have a chance. Assuming they are popular enough to sell out very quickly. I liked the idea of pre ordering better. Oh well it is not my business so I hope I will be quick enough when the time comes to order some of these sought after buildings.

Hi, John. Here is my version of the White Castle. I added some scrap brass for the door trim, handles and kick plates. I used thin strip styrene for the louvers above the windows. They are shown in photos but didn't come with the kit. The clocks are stickers from a Marklin(?) kit. It is lit and attached to the Snowden theater kit. I really like how the parking lot transitions into the soil on your diorama. Looks very natural. Nicely done. Jim DSCN1182.JPG

Would they limit quantities (I hope so) to prevent someone from buying up lots of them? Jim

Thanks for the link. They were called White Tower in the Boston area. I know of 2 existing buildings around Boston/Cambridge. One is falafel and the other is a pho restaurant now. We went to the one in Park Square Boston. I think the burgers were 15 cents back then. Jim

My understanding was that White Tower was a knockoff of White Castle rather than a different name of the same company. Either way, more buildings in Z is OK with me.

Now if we could get some ESM rolling stock in Z...

I think you are right. White Castle still exists (in the frozen food section, at least.) White Tower closed down in the early 70's around here. Like I said, a couple of the buildings still stand and look the same as they did back in the day. Stylistically, the tower parts were different, White Tower's had a flat tower surface. White Castles have a more distinctive tower. Either way it is good to have them on board in any incarnation...Jim
