I have a Loksound V4 installed in a European model and the sound cut out yesterday. The lights work and it still moves, but no sound. I took it off the track and it started up again, but as soon as I hit the horn, it died again. After that, the sound did not come back on. I unsoldered the speaker and it had no resistance on my multimeter. Instead of 4 ohms it had none, so it blew somewhere. I think if I get another speaker it will be fine. I lowered the master volume CV, something I did not do before. The V4 recommends a 4 ohm speaker. Can I get an 8 ohm or will that damage the decoder? Any thoughts on what caused this issue?
8ohm will be half volume and power compared to 4 ohms. No problem running a higher ohm load, just never run lower than allowed.
Two Zimo LS10X15 (8 Ohm) in parallel would be a nice option, if thereās enough space for two speakers.
The speaker necessarily needs a chamber. Look here: http://www.sbs4dcc.com/tutorialstipstricks/esu50321cubespeaker.html
