I hope you will be able to salvage it all. Are you moving to a bigger or smaller place?

Looks like a fine layout. (y) Is your move a lengthy one where a household goods carrier will handle? I faced that some years ago and built crates to hold the layout sections. The movers were careful to not place anything on top of the crates. Everything survived very well.

Your avatar name xpedx spells the same upside down. :)

Been there, done that. Built a custom crate for the layout (only 3x7 feet, a far cry from your room filling layout), but it survived two intercontinental moves a few local ones too. Built it heavy so it'll last. I used 7/16" waferboard on all 6 sides, 2x2 top supports for the lid, and 2x4 corner supports. Looking forward to seeing it reassembled in its new home!

Is this a NEW stick-built house or a new previous built house. The reason I'm asking because you can get some allowances for a new layout room. Are you buying a BASEMENT for the layout with a nice house over the top of it for the BOSS?

Pictures say a thousand words. I installed the walls while the layout was still on its legs, then folded them, added the bottom, and placed the lid last.

The move will be about 1500 miles all the wood should be recycled. Will be in a 40 x 60 building

Good luck to you. I find that it often ends up being a new opportunity, maybe an imposed new build with a new set of ideas no matter how carefully one plans for a move, including moving a layout. If it's being dismantled, often it's for the better.

You can adapt what you can salvage (or rebuild), as a modular, so no need to worry next time you move....
