    Hello All,

I'm trying to help a friend through the process of disassembling a Kato SD45. I'm on the road for work right now, and since I don't have one of my models in front of me, I thought perhaps the easiest thing would be to send him a link to a thread or article. Does anyone know of a an article/blog/thread that walks someone through the removal of the shell, and separating it into the cab and hood, walkways and sill? It doesn't matter what the project is for, as long as the article shows these steps.

    Thanks!

Honestly, it's not rocket surgery. The shell pulls off from the chassis relatively easily and the various shell pieces are held together either by visible clips or simple friction. These modern diesel models are extremely user-friendly.

    Cheers,

Once the shell if off, use a toothpick to pry the handrail ends from the cab and it pretty much falls apart from there. It doesn't get much easier...

Often the most intimidating part of disassembling a locomotive is getting the body shell off. Here's a link to a video for a quick and easy technique that I have used many times to remove body shells.

this video doesn't have any information on actually disassembling the body shell, but it may help get your friend through what many people consider to be the most nerve-racking aspect of disassembly.

That brute force is needed for some chinese productions but NOT for japanese precision.
