I would like to comment about Digitax's radio control available on the Empire Bilder, or the Chief. I had nothing but trouble with it yesturday at the train show. I had acceleration when I didn't want it, the head light would flash, I couldn't change direction, took up too 15 seconds for the loco to change speeds when the command went in, and so the list goes on. Now in a home use of radio often has no problem. Or even in an inder train show. The thing that was causing us trouble at the modular layout was the evil cell phone! [IMG]

Cell phones interfeer with the operation of Digitrax's radio control, so since this show was at a plant store (art knapps), and we were just under a small cover, alot of radio was around. In some extreme cases u may not even get Radio control to work. Now-in a home, or at shows with less radio there isn't a problem. But this is a warning to people who will use it at a show where they know there will be alot of radio, ect....

reminds me of radio station KQED in San Fran. Could'n understand sporatic interference every 2.33 minutes but it only happened once every 6 months and then for only 12 days.

Took them 2 years to figure out it was the USS Forestal keeping their threat radar on for the few days they were in port.
The 2.33 min was the sweep time of the radar mast.

It is unlikely that this is any kind of problem that can be blamed on the manufacturer or the quality of the equipment. RF energy can cause problems at times - although celluar telephones emit only a small amount. I can't imagine that there would be a lot of shielding on DCC decoders. Since the D in DCC stands for "digital," it would have to be an RF saturation problem and I would not think it would be anything the average user would worry about. (Although I am not very knowledgeable on DCC systems commercially available at this time.)

You are right, E8. I was using Digitrax as the people becuase of 2 reasons. #1, I don't really know who does radio, other than Digitrax. All I know is others do.... #2 I was suing Digitrax when this occured.

Also, another thing, if conditions are like this, and u have more than 1 radio throttle, the problems gets worse!

But, after I have made radio sound bad, it is good in most conditions.

    Happy Railroading!!
