I am looking for pics about e Santa Fe Diesle or Car - Repairshop. What's the height of this buildings? Is this too tall???
Most carshops would have the space above to have several overhead cranes on tracks at sufficient height to clear a locomotive with something like an entire engine block suspended underneath. Don't know about the rear elevation though. That part seems high to me.
Here are some links to photos of slightly larger facilities at Argentine Kansas, and Barstow, California. The same site also has a few other photos of these facilities. No measurements are given, but it seems like your height is reasonable. http://www.kansasmemory.org/item/51757 http://www.kansasmemory.org/item/51799 Cheers
Hmm.. it's still seeming pretty tall to me. You're giving more than an extra story of space above the engines, but I just don't think it fits the look you're going for. I mean, it's only a 3-track facility. All the engine servicing facilities around here are roughly the same size and provide just enough space for an overhead crane above the engine. It comes out to just around 1 1/2 to 2 stories. Plus, it will tone down the structure as such an eye-catcher in the scene and help it melt in. Just my thoughts, though. Alex
Car Shop in Indiana I would go with what you have; railroad shop facilities come in all shapes and sizes. Here is a car repair shop which was rebuilt in 1944 by the Pennsylvania Railroad. It has around 20 stalls, and is still in use today. There is really no such thing as wrong - you can always find a prototype example of what you're doing, if you look hard enough!
The sand towers are amazing whithout any pipes. Tell us more about them please. How will they look when finished? Any prototype photo? And yes we want to see more photos !!!
Hi BNSF or mister no name here its the prototype photo. I made it 2006 in Stockton California. The Pipes will come! ;-) Easy, Rome was also not built in one Day! ;-)
Hi Eugen, Thanks for sharing the prototype photos. I'll follow the thread. And keep the plans ready, I'll visit you soon ;-) Daniel
Excellent work Eugen! I especially like the way the engine service tracks have been arranged at an angle to the benchwork, instead of parallel to the edges. It really enhances the scene. I only wish I had this much space for an engine servicing area on my layout. Please keep us updated on your progress.
The first ladder to get on the top of the sanding tower its almost finished. There are two more to go! ;-(
