The comment has been made once, that the AZL metal wheels are a little larger than the MT ones in diameter. In the photo you posted, they did look a little bigger.

Can you tell me what diameter they are ? (My modelling is in Nn3, so slightly larger wheels are generally a bonus.)

    Regards

I have not measured them myself, but someone posted on the Yahoo group a few days ago that the AZL wheels were a scale 33.5" and the MTL wheels were a scale 33.25" or thereabouts.

There are also some metal wheels available from RLW that fit MTL trucks, But I don't know if they are Nn3 or Z 33".

    Hi Robert

Yes, I noticed that RLW also supply metal wheels, and I followed up on the Nn3 list as to what diameter they were. They are made by David Styles so they are probably 4.2mm dia from recollection.

Marklins are 4.4mm diameter or thereabouts so they may still be the best option for those wanting larger wheels.

    Cheers,

    Ben

I just measured both the MTL and AZL wheels with a digital micrometer and here are the measurements: Flange Diameter .188" or 4.77mm for MTL
    .196" or 4.99mm for AZL
Wheel Diameter on Track: .153" or 3.89mm for MTL
    .152" or 3.87mm for AZL
Width of wheelsets .397.5" or 10.10mm for MTL
    .424.5" or 10.79mmmm for AZL
The MTL wheelsets fall right out of the AZL trucks, too bad as they are nice looking and metal.

are you sure that this is what you wanted to say?
    MTL wheelsets were never metal?
    I am confused

Sorry guy, didn't mean to confuse you. The AZL wheelsets are metal and do not fit the MTL trucks and I should have said the AZL wheelsets were nice looking and metal.

I have also read that the roller bearing AZL trucks have 33" wheels and the new bettendorf trucks have 36" wheels. The opposite of how they should be.
