Maybe I'm the only one that photographs railroad related plaques, maybe not. Lets see your plaque shots if ya got em! I'll start with four for the transcontinental railroad in Rocklin, Newcastle, Auburn and Colfax, California.
I knew I couldn't be the only one out there taking pics of these plaques! Excellent reading too!!! To compliment your summit tunnel plaque, here is a plaque about Cape Horn:
Thats too funny!!!! I grew up with a father who had to stop at every single one. Now I do it! Even got a book with the Califonia Historical Markers in it listed by county. I highlight the ones I've read in person.
Now you have me thinking. And that can be dangerous! I may have taken one or two such photos in my life. And can only wonder where I've stashed them... Boxcab E50
Youre right. A little more on the somber side. Heres another from the Donner pass line, Bloomer Cut near Auburn.
Excellent Russell!!! I was just in Colorado Springs. Unfortunately we didn't get to visit Pikes Peak.
At Tunnel 26 in 1991, a rockslide roared down the canyonside, and blocked the track in the middle of the night. Unsuspecting, a train chugged up the 2% grade and saw the blocked track too late. The train derailed, killing both the engine crewmen. This plaque, installed on the west portal of Tunnel 26 forever remembers their fateful night:
Wow! I really like the locos on that one!! Heres one for the Nevada County Narrow Guage in Nevada City,CA:
I'll wager just about any railfan who goes to the Columbia River Gorge will shoot this photo: This wooden sign is perpetually in the dark and hard to photograph well.
Where is that sign in the gorge? I've never seen it 35 miles from portland suggests somewhere around Hood River. When I was up there, I never made it east of Hood River. (well, except when I moved out there and followed the UP all the way in.
Yoho, it's at Multnomah Falls. You park and walk under the UP line next to the highway. I first saw it 25 years ago, and it is on the back side (nearest the waterfall) of the small UP bridge. The falls are spectacular anyway and not to be missed!
YTou know, in 3 years, I went to those falls at least half a dozen times and I watched trains from there, but it never occured to me that there was a sign to see. My guess that I kept to myself was that it was somewhere in that area.
