Wed, Jan 1st,14. Hi Group, Delux Innovations? Question? Has Anything Happened to Deluxe Innvations? I Was Looking to Acquire a Few of the 5 Car Container Cars Sets Plus I Looked at the Ideas of Acquiring Some of the 40' 45' & 53' Containers. Items That Appealed to Me. My L H S Doesn't Order from Deluxe and Says His Suppliers Don't Carry It. (?) Walthers ? I Had Heard They Got Hit Hard by Hurricane Sandy and Its My Views that the Great Depression Dam Near Wiped Them Out - along With Atlas. I Order Hard to Get Items from PWRS and I Don't Think a Lot of the Items Never Got Produced. Opinions Anyone!. Tnx, Operator
I think DI experienced the same problems with the "Great Chinese Factory Reshuffle" that pretty much everyone else did. But new products have actually been announced on their website as recently as October - http://www.deluxetrains.com/announcements102013.html Cheers, -Mark
Atlas has not been wiped out. There have been a number of production difficulties which have been explored and discussed at length, but no indications of anything resembling a failure.
Economics have slowed many things, but neither Atlas nor DI have been close to being wiped out. If you heard that via your LHS, they're full of cow baloney.
DI did get flooded in Ramsey,NJ,but has since moved to a new building in Midland Park,NJ.Been there for quit a while.Funny,my cousin lived in Ramsey, two blocks from DI,moved a month before the flooding,Dave ended up in a building two blocks from him again in Midland Park..LOL!! Dave has quit a bit of the flooded stuff cleaned up,most of it wasn't actual stock, but his "Heritage Collection",which was one of every item Deluxe ever produced,as packaged.. Actually,I thought Atlas did get some flooding?
I have to agree that Atlas didnt get 'wiped out' by anything. But I am sure the lack of their C55 track line over the years has put a serious dent in their bottom line. Being a reaslist...I hate seeing manufactues, hobby shops, etailers and even modelers calling it quits...but...I firmly believe the strong will survive. JMO...YMMV
Dec 3rd, 14, Hi Group, Like the Replies - Thanks,, I Live in the West - Calgary, But I Had Heard Something About D I Got Flooded, But Not Much Else. Getting Stock from D I in Calgary is NOT the Best by Any means from a Supplier. I Often Come Away With the Opinions That the Hobby Shop I Deal With, Is Skitish About N Scale at Times. HO Sells Great, Micro Trains Sells Well - Some Items Fly Out the Door. I See a Lot of N Scale Items Sit on the Store Self and It Just Doesn't Sell - so It Seams. Kato, Atlas, Intermountain, Athearn, Blueford Shops, and Excell. plus Fox Valley Models. I End Up Getting Items From PWRS That I Can't Get in Calgary. My City is a HO Town - Yes Because We Have a Few HO Groups Plus Calgary Free Mo and Its BIG. I Always Ask for Items That They Can't Seem to Get so Its Off to PWRS in Vancouver Now My 1st Choice. Love PWRS But I Also Like to Support Local but Hard to Do if They Can't Seem to Get Things. Deluxe Made Some Great Container Cars - 3/5 Car Sets and Sure Like Those Colourfull Containers. Just Can't Get Them in My Home City. Just My Own Opinion. Thanks Operator, Note I Have a List of Containers I Hope to Get From PWRS. Hoping They Will Pop Up Some Day.
I ordered some covered hoppers from Dave and was able to pick them up from him at Bedford. Dave has been fighting the Chinese Mfg for the return of his dies for the covered hopper and was not having a whole lot of luck. He did say that Inter Mountain will be doing a model of the 2 bay covered hopper in the $25.00 to $30.00 range, but he did not know a date for this. George Picyk
