Went through Deerlodge today coming back from Spokane. I wanted to get a few shots of #36 for my files, which I got. It also appeared that the E70 was repainted so took a couple shots of that too. But my question is about the caboose.......it's a smooth-side bay window painted with yellow ends and #992185. It doesn't match the pics I have of that series.....actually the paint scheme would be like the last 14 cabeese purchased #992215-992229, but it looks very much like a picture of #02191 I have. Anyone know the history on this caboose?
I recall seeing somewhere on the 'Net information about that caboose. cannot think of where. Perhaps contact someone such as Jay Lentzner?
I wanted to get through there this summer, but health and cheap gas prices..... I forgot all about this- I'm going to drop Jay an email. He is one of those active with maintaining these artifacts.
I'd sure love to get back through Deerlodge to see them again one day. I helped with the painting of the E70 when we first moved it from the park over to the museum. She's my baby...
The E70 at Deer Lodge was repainted in the spring of 2009 in preparation for the national Milwaukee Road Historical Association's (MRHA) annual convention which was held at Butte in June of 2009 (with a full day trip to Deer Lodge). The guys were finishing up the paint job just before we arrived for the day.
