The depth is needed for the pit! You have a large pit with a rotating bridge, all encased in plastic. Two choices on a HCD - cut the hole in the door and don't worry about it, or, put 3 inches of foam on the door, giving you lots of landscaping possibilities, along with enough depth for the pit. Yes, the DCC will be the same.

I would think the new DCC turntable will be identical, or nearly so to the old one. I have the old one also - waiting for installation on a HCD. I have 3" of foam on top of the HCD though so I have plenty of room to carve a hole.

AFAIK the major difference between the two turntables is that you can wire the new one up (or maybe it gets the DCC signal from the bridge) and set an address or two and control the bridge turning via DCC. i.e. from your throttle or JMRI, etc.

I thought the only thing different in the TT was the DCC and putting in an address. Did You use a door and cover with 3 inches of foam? Where do you get this foam? Did you cover the total surface of layout? Next time I'm gonna use more than 1 inch of foam. Thanks Ron

The original plan wasn't to use 3" of foam. About 8 (!) years ago when I started the layout I put a 1" layer of foam on the HCD. Then came divorce, moving, etc and along the way the door and foam were stored much of the time around a cat... that liked to dig at the foam. So last year when I finally got around to starting up again I started to remove the foam since the surface was torn up pretty well and discovered that it was still well glued to the door. So I layered another 2" on top figuring I could use the extra depth for carving ditches, etc.

I got the foam at either Lowes or Home Depot. We have both and both have the stuff in this area. I just used Liquid Nails for foam, put the new layer on and turned it all upside down to make sure everything was pressed together well. Then I trimmed the excess off.

Had to do a foam transplant on my layout. I usually work with 3/4 inch foam in sheets. I only had 3/4 inch down on my layout and needed 2 inches for the TT. I separated the 3/4 glued foam from the door, without removing the track, built up the door 2 1/4 inches and now awaiting putting the original 3/4 piece with track back. Hope this works out good. Thanks Ron

I have a question for you, I am getting the tt that is made from Peco's. I am almost sure that it is DCC ready. Does it have the auto-reverser?? Any advice on that model..I think it is a 90 foot model. Like it for a Timber short line plan i am working on. I have been hoping that someone has it and could give me feedback. Thanks, Dan
