In searching the internet I have found that Digitrax makes a replacement board for the DC only light board in these Loco's.
My question, is it as simple as just replacing the light board and the Loco's are now DCC capable or do I need to isolate the motor and do anything else to convert them?:tb-confused:

    John,

I would highly recommend a Train Control Systems (TCS) decoder.
The A6X will be a direct replacement. One of the best things aboout the A6X is that it has an on-board power supply so you will not have to change any of the light bulbs or add resistors for the stock 1.5 volt bulbs as with some other decoders. The ditch light wires will need to be soldered to the function pads on the TCS decoder but the pads are large and easily accessible. The rest of the connections can use the stock wire lock clips or be soldered if desired. The lighting functions availabe in the TCS programming are awsome and the motor control is exceptional.
MSRP on the A6X is $32.95 which may seem a little high compared to some others, but not having to deal with Athearn's 1.5v lamps: priceless!
