This are this ones you want for z scale. They are made for N scale but they will fit perfectly in MTL GP-35. http://www.nscaleblma.com/BLMA87.html
Its funny how the sun can change the color of the paint Job. All three were painted with the same paint and mixture, but they were painted 4 months apart. When they were first painted, they all have the almost black blue look. The boxcar with lightest blue was painted first. In a way, I like the effect. I dont like the uniform look of a train. Even a unit train should have different shades of color.
Thanks for those who provided 'helpful' information. I did see some BLMA information but there was no description of any specific Z details there, so the extra info about 36" N fans being able to be used for 48" ones in Z was *exactly* what I needed to know. Cheers Ben
John, Are those all the same decals on all the boxcars? The first one looks different to me. I was going to comment on the difference in paint and then you explained it. Just like the prototype. I think CSX uses some of the cheapest paint I've ever seen. I want to take one of the SCL gons and just basically wash it with blue and let the SCL show through since that's what most of the CSX cars I see look like. What is the scrap load you used? I don't think I've seen that one before. Did you make it yourself? Randy
Nice! I just saw one of these in train outside of Columbus todya. The orange was very faded and looked more tan. The Z version is a great match! Rob
Rob, after years of not having any CSX running stock, suddenly there are plenty of releases from FR, MTL, and MK4D. All I need is AZL to join the list. How about some CSX coal porters and CSX autoracks.
Life is getting pretty good if you are modelling CSX. This is the latest addition. This is the handy work of Bobby Hargis.
I pass up tons of those coil cars on the way to work every day. It's a great car, any idea how it was built?
Chriss, its made with a MTL underframe, and two Red Caboose coil covers, and scratch build parts. Bobby does a great job. It looks like MTL made them.
I finally started replacing the kitten with the proper CSX logos. I used a hobby knive to scrape the kitten off the hopper just like David suggested, and then I applied the CSX logos made by TIm.
Nice Job John. I've got about 12 undecorated black Penzee hoppers I'm going to eventually be doing the same thing to.
Thank you guys. I like to weather my rolling more as time permits. I am picking up a lot pointers from Robert, Chriss, and Joe S. Joe, I think using the undec hoppers is probably the easiest way to go. To chisel off the decorations is time consuming.
John the layout is progressing nicely there! The grain elevator is great, it really acts as a nice divider between sides. You got some nice rolling stcok there!
I started to repaint some of my Gunderson into the CSX intermodal scheme. It matches well with my FR CSX car.
