Tom, I believe I got the answer to my own question. Yesterday I was southbound on 95 coming out of Wilmington and I receive a nice picture off to my right. A Blue Conrail SD90?? with 4 freight cars and a Blue caboose slowly easing itself onto what I thought was an abandoned track next to the Amtrak training center. This track comes off the NE line and heads along the NE line towards the Amtrak Station but its disappears into weeds about 1/4 mile into the city. I did a little investigating and headed to where this SD was parked and got another little gift. The small yard I mentioned in my earlier post that is on the right side of the NE line..well, this track the SD was sitting on at the moment..has a turnout that goes under the NE line and into this small yard. So I got to see this SD switching some cars. My question now is..What is a Conrail SD doing on the NE? Isn't Conrail part of CSX which runs on a single line north of the city? and I thought NS(which does alot of business at Chrsyler on the NE) worked the NE line.

    Dave,
That loco may have been an SD but not a SD-90.. I can't anser the line questions but the SD loco you seen (if in Conrail paint) was a SD-80MAC! Thing is, did it have yellow cab numbers? As CSX owned EX. Conrail units got a number patch, but still wear Conrail Quality paint with yellow cab numbers. These would be CSX owned units. As for NS, I'm not sure what they're number patch is or looks like so I can't help their. If, you can remember the cab number of the unit you seen, if it was in the numbering order of 800 to 812, it sure was a SD-80MAC, this is the number cequence for CSX for their ex Conrail SD-80MACs

The number patches for the Conrail units that NS got are white. In addition to the number there would also be the designation "PRR".

NS patches are actually either white with black letters or black with white letters (I have seen both).
