You know every once in awhile I here that CSX (which is not my road but still of intrest) Decomissioned the U-Boats, I'm not to sure why they would release this info to the generial public.

I still see them all over the place

U18 In Miami about 1 1/2 years ago used as a road switcher near the Airport.

U33/36c's? (Not sure which one not enough time to decifer) Near Boynton Area (WPB FL)

C30-7's used as helpers haven't seen in lead position (yet) All over the place WPB, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando.

But 90% of the time it's C44's SD80's and a but load of CFEX (or somthing like that) Leased.

I'll start taking my camera with me so I can take a picture next time I see one.

    Joshua.

AFAIK the U-boat era is over on the CSX; you sure you aren't seeing Dash-7s, like B36-7s?

    I am absolutly sure,
the U-Boat's are my favorate style in model Railroading (the Kato U30C & the C30-7's).

But down here in FL FEC don't own any so CSX is the only one here that does.

    Joshua,
    Interesting observations...

The U18's left the CSX roster many years ago... I think a few may have made it to short lines..

U33/36's left the roster a long time ago...

There are some C30-7's around still..

Yes, you need to carry a camera and share pictures :)

Almost everything you claim to have seen has been off the roster for years. Any U-Boats have been toast for years and the C30-7s and C36-7s have been off the roster about a year now. Want proof?

I thought there was one C30-7 left in work train service?

Toast. CSX is rebuilding SD50s for work train service.

(It's definitely not in helper service in Florida -- that's for sure!)

    Tim!

That unit has probably been sitting there since March. Porgress Rail scraps locomotives. A locomotive graveyard, so-to-speak. That looks like one of the early retirees of this year.

They also rebuild locomotives there as well. There is a short line here in north GA that received 3 units from them that they rebuilt.

There are not any C30-7s still on the operating roster that I know of. One of the last 2 that was on the roster, I shot either very early this yr or late last yr. Since then, it has been canned.

Notice that you posted a B36-7. There are still a significant number of B30-7s and B36-7s left on CSX - I think.

    You mean like these?

B36-7s 5850 and 5849 (numerical order, yet) on point of WB local in Cordele, GA.

The only U-boats I've seen so far this century are the Georgia Central U23Bs in Macon, Vidalia, and Lyons. I'm not that up-to-date on NS and CSX rosters, but I know for sure UP and BNSF have purged their rosters of C30-7s. If they're around, they're rent-a-wreck leasers, or parts for same.

That's exactly the picture I was thinking of! :D
There are U-boats in a lot more places, but none on Class 1s.
This is where some of the CSX U18Bs have gone:
