There will be on the weekend of the 9th,10th, and eleventh of July a railfest/canalfest celebration at the Western Maryland Scenic's Cumberland Station. The ground floor of the station hosts the National Park Service exhibit of the old C&O canal, nice too. The news I enjoyed is the fact that on the tenth, (one day only) CSX will hold an open house at the Cumberland, Md Locomotive Shops. You can park near the WMSR station, and take a shuttle bus provided for a ride over to the shops. The buses run on a frequent schedule, so you don't have to stay for a limited time. WMSRR will be selling short caboose and diesel cab rides on the tenth only. Of course the steam engine will be making it's regular runs to Frostburg on 9, 10 and 11. Ed [ 09. It's all free except for the ride on the steamer, which is it's usual excursion price, and the short cab and caboose rides. That's what I like about the CSX open house...no charge, and in the past, the ride over to the shops on the shuttle buses were free also. Come early and get a good parking spot. If you want to ride the steam excursion, it may be a good idea to buy tickets for that in advance. Here's their web site..www.wmsr.com Ed
