Not open to the public but look for the Holiday Train in New York City on Dec. 5. Train will be staged at Fresh Pond, Queens, NY for a special presentation to NYC and then run illuminated along the Hudson River and into Saratoga that evening. Departure from NY is not at set time but will be in place of the regular freight run that day, usual departure is 1900hrs onto the Hudson Line. Route from Fresh Pond (Freemont) is over Hell Gate Bridge to Oak Point yard then along the East River past Yankee Stadium and on to the Hudson Line north to Rensselaer - Schenectady and D&H to Saratoga. Equipment will deadhead south from Montreal 12/3 & 4. On return this will become a part of the Canadian train departing Montreal 12/7.
Correction to above: The Holiday Train display WILL be open to the public in New York City. Scheduled at NY&A Fresh Pond Yard at 68th & Otto Rd., Queens, NY at 1730, departure at 1845 Dec 5. Train will run as the regular number 505 but about an hour and a half-2 hours later than the usual freight times. Only a guess but approximate times should be CP7 2015, Poughkeepsiee 2300, Rensselaer 0030, Saratoga 0200. The official schedule puts the train into Saratoga at 0415 so they are allowing time for delays enroute. Further details as they become available.
Great news Al, thanks for those more precise times. Should be interesting to see. Heard there will be an SD40-2 on the point due to cab signals, trailed by a spankin new AC4400. Edit: Numbers from Gordy are the 5698 and 8638 respectively. Also heard that the Toys for Tots train out of Albany will run with D&H 7312/CP 7311 on the morning of the 15th at 0800. Damn, that reminds me, need to order some more slide film. [ 30 November 2001: Message edited by: Harron ]</p>
