Hello there, I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the Cranbrook, BC area - I traveled there for the first time a few weeks ago (I live in Kalispell, MT - BNSF territory) and visited the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel. Noticing the yard and roundhouse in Cranbrook, I'd like to railfan the area more this summer. Does anyone have a detailed map of the area, as well as information on traffic and commodities found? I was intrigued by the UP power there (the run-through power that goes via the SI to Portland) - I used to live in Portland and saw the CP power at Albina Yard on occassion. Thanks for your help! - erik (wigwagfan) erikaren@yahoo.com
I am not familiar with Cranbrook, but I would highly suggest if you are coming up to BC to rail fan the Fraser Canyon, particularly around the Cisco Bridges, and the public camp ground just past Lytton. I promise you, you'll love it. Oh, and eat at the restuarant in North Bend (at Boston Bar). You can have the CP omellette (its where the rail crews eat - both CN and CP, though it is owned by CP - and it is open to the public - 24 hours a day.) If you are interested, email me and remind me you posted here and I will send you more detailed info.
I posted a response above, but it didn't take and showed a zero responses and not moved to the top as it should. I am hoping this post will bounce it up for you to see.
