I am looking for info. on the CP Rail SD40-2s that were purchased from the UP and quickly painted with a red CP Rail where Union Pacific used to be. Was there anything on the rear of the locos in terms of a number or insignia? Any sites with pics? Thanks, Clint
Clint From what I was able to find, CP5422-CP5431 are the ex-UP units. They came to CP via GATX leasing. _______ Here is GATX 2002 which became CP 5424 http://gelwood.railfan.net/other/gatx/gatx2002abn.jpg ______ Photos and history can be found here (just click on the cab number to link to the photo). http://www.trainweb.org/galt-stn/cproster/locomotive/5400s/5400.htm _________ Here is a photo of CP 5431 (ex UP 4197) in UP colors which shows a plain yellow rear end http://gelwood.railfan.net/other/cp/cp5431j.jpg _________ Hope this info is helpful to you eNjoy [ 22 February 2002, 05:07: Message edited by: dbn160 ]
Ya know, and I just looked at a bunch of slides with these units on em. I'm pretty sure they didn't put any additional numbers on the back, but I could be wrong. I think they had the numberboards, unlike some CP units with the number blazed across the back.
Thank you, thank you! I had only seen those without anything on the back, but some custom painters are selling them with numbers. Think I will go without and just do the number boards. Clint
They have number boards only, but the lights in the boards are not maintained, at least on the full CP livery units we have on the D&H.
