Ok I have looke at the box and all the numbers I have seen indicate that I should be able to except for one thing I can't find is my video card specs. I am running Windows ME on a 766processor with over 300megs of RAM. I am using a Compaq Presario 5000 series model 5006US. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I couldn't seem to find any specs for your system on the Compaq site. If you know how to go into the System Manager in WIndows you should be able to see what video card you are using and go from there.

EJM - my Compaq is identical to yours in every way except that it has a 966 mhz processor. MSTS works fine. I did have to go into the program and slow down the acceleration a bit and the amount of detail to be seen only the slightest, otherwise it did not run.

Now, to answer your question more directly, right click on your desktop and click properties in the box that comes up. Then click on settings and then "advanced" This should give you all the info on your video card including the driver and the acceleration rate.

Hope that this helps and Welcome to Trainboard!

I did some looking and I thing they run an ATI card. I do know it is APG and seperate. The price of a basic 32MB card is not that much now days. I could not find and video card driver updates on the Compac (SP) site. The basic ATI one should work.

Thanks all! I was frustrated because I wanted to run something new. I may still look into getting a new video card. Naturally the one a friend suggested cost about $150. For those interested I just got Trainz by Auran on and running. I was going to take it back and exchange it but now maybe I won't. My problem was that I had to change the driver from Direct X to Open GL. Once again thanks for helping me learn the ropes and tolerating my questions. This is without a doubt the friedliest bunch of people I have ever met. Maybe someday I can get my Ho self system on the wall. I am still trying to figure out how to connect the boards together on the ends so the brackets will hold them in place.

My board cost just a little more and I stole it. The MSRP was $300.00. It is a CT6971, 32MB DDR.

Knowing how video sensitive Trainz is, if you are running Trainz you would have no problem running MSTS.
