Here's some info on this load- Shipper was Grand Canyon Rail of Williams, AZ. Car was waybilled out of Wayne, Montana. (About 20 rail miles south of Great Falls.) Destination was Arizona State RR Museum, Williams, AZ. Car is now empty, and enroute to Havelock, NE. Does that museum have a web site? Maybe more info there? Eric- When did you take that photo? I took the photo just before Thanksgiving as it was sitting in BNSF downtown Denver yard. Man is hard to get photos from that yard. Eric
I've searched and Googled. Cannot find anything on an entity named "Arizona State RR Museum." Anyone have some ideas? Also looked at the Grand canyon RR web site. Nothing there. Unless I missed it? Boxcab E50
http://www.azrymuseum.org/ This is the museum in Chandler, which is near Phoenix. I'm not aware of a museum at Williams. The GCRR runs steam-powered tourist trips to the edge of the Grand Canyon out of Williams daily. I think maybe GCRR got a new toy or spare parts? The Chandler museum makes no mention of a new piece, and I know they have a lot of projects in the works right now.
Arizona State Railroad Museum is a different outfit from the Chandler museum. I sense that they are somewhat of a new organization, and they may not have a web presence yet. What I do know by reading posts elsewhere by people more knowledgable that I is that this organization is NOT affiliated with the Grand Canyon...they just happened to be based in the same town. The Grand Canyon shops are to do at least a cosmetic restoration on this Shay before it goes on display. Jeff Moore Elko, NV
Steve- Williams was the destination waybilled. So the reason I wondered about the Grand Canyon group. Boxcab E50
Thanks guys, I for one sure didn't know about a new museum here, but that is most welcome news. Williams is about the most rail-friendly town around. I didn't really believe the GCRR needed a shay. Cool, I'll be burning up more film!
