    Evening everyone,

I recently picked up a brass Hallmark locomotive. I don’t recall which one and it’s out in the shop but it has the most awful red paint I’ve ever seen. Is it safe to soak it in acetone or some other solvent to clean the paint? I’ll thoroughly clean it up and etch it with vinegar before repainting it. I’ll have to research who used this locomotive before coming up with any ideas. Any better ways to strip the paint without damaging the brass?

anything fairly strong ... you mentioned ONLY brass, so there won't be any plastic to melt ..

072050C7-92C5-4C19-8FFD-2A4102B23972.jpeg It worked out pretty well, I bought a spray can paint stripper from Walmart and the first application took off 90% of the paint in 15 minutes and rinsed clean from a garden faucet. Smaller spaces took a few more applications but it’s most done. I think one more spray and an old tooth brush will remove it completely. It’s definitely a Hallmark product.

This is what happens when I use an I phone instead of a camera. Looks like I was drunk. Maybe I should have been….
