Both of the 1956 vintage diesels are out of service now on the Yreka Western RR, located in Siskiyou County of northern California. Because there is a contract to move forest products from a local mill, it is now necessary to bring old number 19 out of winter storage to deliver the freight to the Central Oregon & Pacific (CORP) interchange at Montague. It should be quite a steam show considering the cold, moist air at this time of the year! The YWRR management is scrambling to find a diesel loco that they can lease until repairs are made, so old #19 will probably be seeing considerable service until then.
I "borrowed" this from Tony Johnson who published it on Altamont Press. Said they had to double the hill to Montague. Bill, do you know him? I love it, steam in revenue service in 2001. [ 22 November 2001: Message edited by: fitz ] [ 22 November 2001: Message edited by: fitz ]</p>
Fitz .. can't say that I recognize the name, but I would probably know the face if he comes around the YWRR very often. Because of rain-wet rails, Old #19 had problems keeping traction as it tried to negotiate the grade and sharp curve at Montague, we had to break the train in half and take them in that way. I guess we had too much oil on the flanges from our summer runs. Anyway .. it was great to pull a serious train with 'ol Pancho again.
