Hoo boy howdy! Looking way better! Can't wait until we see trains running. That T1 is still a dead decoder, manual reset does nothing. Loksound on it's way, some day.
OK, I couldn't really tell too well, but I did notice it looked a little smaller than normal (but obviously not scale size).
Yep. It's a 4 inch spike someone had found around an old depot. Now I am not sure what or when a 4 inch spike was used. But its pretty neat... Now to find my standard sized spikes... Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Another day here on the farm. Just thought to share a bit today. I think it looks good! What y'all think? Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Oh, my... Those mountains are GORGEOUS!!! I love the rubble/debris at the bottoms of the slopes! Please post some still pic's that I can print out and use for inspiration!
Gcav, Just went back and caught up on your progress posts... Thanks for the tips on materials and tools. I have a large selection of rasps and files (one of my other hobbies is woodworking). Have you tried the surf-form rasps for really fast/rough shaping? I am planning on using layers of 2" pink foam board on my HCD layout, and like how you have worked it. When you say "plaster" is that drywall compound, plaster of paris, WS Carving Plaster, or ...?
All I used for forming was a 4 in 1 rasp tool. I really liked the way it worked on the foam. The deeper cut worked well at times if I was going for a certain look. I used foam glue to put foam together. Contractors grade. And let it set for a day before I tried rasping. As for my Plaster. I find it really does not matter what you use. It all works the same. Now. You may not believe this. But all my mountains and hills are coated with dryer sheets. I use these the same as newspaper. The only difference is there's Texture in them sheets. It was a zany idea I figured out years ago. They actually work well over the ridges I created. If you look in the pictures I occasionally get seams. I then mix up more Plaster and use a "blush" brush to get rid of the seams. It works. But you have to have a thicker mix. Try not to get to many brush streaks. And keep the brush clean. It comes in handy later! If you get a streak. Just use a wet cloth to get rid of them. For years I knew there had to be a good use for dryer sheets. Just make sure they are used. It takes time to get them right. I sometimes cut or tear them apart depending where they go. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
In the next pictures are the dryer sheets. Notice how the get wrinkled and crinkled while doing there thing. A ceiling tile I use for the horizontal rock . And of course some still shots for you. I used a exacto knife to cut out my washout caves. There is always a top hole and washout. I tried to model the montana badlands. Not sure how well I did. But I love em anyway. Not hardly at all. Imagine my disappointment! I gotta buy air fresheners for that pine tree smell! Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Really liking the look of how that is all coming together. Great stuff! As for the dryer sheets, if a car derails onto them, will it "Bounce"
Holy bundle of sticks Batman! What's up with that green double track bridge? Is that a kit, kit-bash or DIY?
