Monday, Aug 9, the Colorado Railroad Museum finally moved the first of several pieces of equipment in. The first, was a 40 foot C&S boxcar, #1690 IF I recall.
Also moved in was a 50 foot Burlington insulated beer boxcar.
Moved to a new location, after 40+ years in the same spot, was Colorado Midland observation, #111. Today, Aug 10, COORS SW-8 #C988 was to have been loaded and moved over.
Maybe this week, Rio Grande GP30 #3011 will also be moved in.
Because of work, and the fact that I took more time off than I proibably should have, I do not/will not have photos of the locmotives arriving. However, I do have photos of the other moves!
Here's the C&S car, waiting to be moved in:

And here's the Burlington car, as it's being brought in:

I've still got more photos to load. Just NOT of the C&S car, as batteries in camera went dead, and the extra set I had with me, I forgot to recharge!
Other photos can be seen in my Rail Images gallery - Colorado Midland#111 and C&S 1690.

    Keith-

Does the museum have a physical connection to the outside world?

Also wondering- When did they start using that green? Was it circa the failed 1968 merger date? (May 1, 1968.)

The only connection the Museum has is 44th Ave.
Equipment has to be brought in by truck.
There's 2-3 pieces of equipment sitting on what was once a siding to the museum. I believe that was installed and used only long enough to get the Burlington 4-8-4 into the Museum, then pulled out.

The green on the Burlington car was used at the original time of the merger. I had asked about it Saturday, in case folks thought it was wrong!
And this car was repainted recently, by the BNSF.

Cool. Is the Geep 30 gone from the brewery spur too now?

It should be. The SW should have come in on Tuesday this week. With the GP30 to follow on Wednesday, depending on how long it took to get the SW in, and if they encountered
crane - or other - problems..
The crane they were using ruptured a 2000psi oil hose Monday and was out of service for about an hour or so while it was repaired on site.
Thinking of going back to the museum this weekend, to se if the locomotives have arrived.
timing was so far off, that I couldn't take the time off work any longer, to get photos of the locomotives being moved, which is what I originally wanted to do.
If locomotives are there, I'll get photos and postg, sometime Saturday, otherwise I'll go Sunday.

Am looking forward to those photos!

What are the museum's plans for these new diesels? Are they serviceable?

Taken from the online Iron Horse News:

The Coors Brewing Company has donated SW8 diesel switch engine No. C988 to the museum for display. This 800-hp switcher was built in 1957 for the Rock Island Railroad as their No. 550. Coors Brewing Company purchased it in October 1981 and used it for switching the 26-odd miles of trackage within the brewery complex. We will display No. C988 in its Coors livery next to the museum building as an interpretive, hands on educational display. The complete cab will be equipped with sound. A steel staircase will be fabricated to allow safe access to the cab level. We anticipate this will be an extremely popular exhibit. Many thanks to our neighbor, the Coors Brewing Company, for their generosity.

Not sure of the condition of the GP30.
Also a static display. The loop of track the museum has in narrow gauge only. No room for addition of a standard gauge rail.

    Keith-

Is any of the narrow gauge stuff operating this summer?

No standard gauge track? This has me wondering if there's a site in the vicinity, that in the future could be acquired from BNSF or UP?

Actually, Georgetown Loop #15 is running today and tomorrow. I may head down tomorrow. I want to get photos of the GP30 and the SW-8.
Two things I can think of that would keep the museum from aquiring new land: Money and Politics.
