Last May I stumbled upon this downtown. Hope you like em'. It seems like you could use the Bachmann 260 as a good start for this beauty.
more Sorry, I have more... Actually, I have even more but I limited myself to showing the better shots. FYI I am a pretty sucky Photog, but atleast I caught the moment on electrons.
Hey Geeky...nice stuff It was getting more action there then it is now with a broken axle . Sure looks bright and clean inyour pics...thanks!!
Is # 9 broken still? I found a link that showed that #12 broke her axle. Another article hinted that nothing was running on the loop right now. If that's true, it seems like they made a bad choice switching operators up there. As I recall the previous group had a variety of motive power.
Latest report I've seen is #9 is running but #12 and the Diesel are both out for the season so they can only pull a handful of cars. I also saw that the operator had warned the CHS about this but they pushed to run the engines to their limit and found it the hard way.
By golly Geeky you're right...I think the 9 was awaiting a final boiler inspection last I heard?? John
No surprise, if true. When burrocrats stick their noses into matters of which they know naught, they inevitably screw things up.  Boxcab E50
Nice photos! BTW- I was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort of tonnage the 9 could haul in her heyday? Boxcab E50
If you go to the denver public library photo archives and search for pics of #9 you can probably get a good estimate by counting cars. It wouldn't be exact info but it would give you an idea of what a 260 should be hauling.
As always a good question and I am researching that myself right now. Of course what it COULD pull and what it DID pull were two different things because of the steppr grades along the C & S line. Thus the maximum weight would have had to be under what it would be able to pull on flat land. John
