Up until now I have been posting on a thread I started titled layout building giving updates on how my layout is coming along. Here is the link

    http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?141803-Layout-building

Now I figure I will start a new thread here since I am now beyond the initial stages and diving into more detailed work. This week I hit the layout room hard and finished my fascia. Got it all painted up. Also added the backdrop section on my peninsula and finished a few more structures. Here is a couple of pics. Showing before and after shots.

That I will do. Next on my list is to start running bus wires and transferring the track plan over. Once I find a supplier that is not sold out of switches I can start to lay track.

It's been a month since my last update. Since then I have installed the DCC system and layed the track on the peninsula. Slowly working my way around.

It won't be much longer, and this will really start looking like a railroad.

Yes. I need to get a really long drill bit to continue attaching feeders. Also with the incline glued down I can move the track laying along. I am at one spot where a tunnel should go and I am stuck trying to figure it all out. One small hurdle at a time.

Lol, I have a couple ideas forming as I view the pic of where it will be. Now to play with those ideas and see where they lead to. The spot I am referring to is in the middle of the last pic posted where the track goes over a gap. That gap has a track running through it and I wanted that to be a tunnel. That also is the location of the automated interchange.

Looks to be coming along nicely. I will be interested seeing the scenery taking shape.

I can already see the scenery in my head for that area. A tall mountain blocking the view to the other part of the layout. I hope to start it this next month.

That's looking good. Won't be long now and you'll be ready for a certain white and orange stop-over. Automated interchange? I am intrigued.

Yes the automated interchange will be DC and using an electric eye switch. Loco will be set on creep and will push cars into place. As the eye is covered it will stop the train. Pick up the cars and the next ones come into view and take their place. Just gotta visit radio shack and see what they offer.

Built one of my building kits today. I did the Walthers meat packing plant. When I finished it I put everything on top of each other and my wife liked it so much I might keep it that way on the layout. Especially since space is at a premium.

Its been a while since I updated this thread. I think I have a small problem and need some help getting the creative juices flowing. Any suggestions here? My future mountain is having a hard time fitting. Nothing is glued down yet except the road bed.

Ok it has been a busy winter season (modeling season) for me. I got almost half my layout track laid. As I was laying the Dorado section I came across a minor problem that has been bothering me as of late. The structures are hiding the trains. I found that my roundhouse was really going to cause some issues so I decided to redraw that corner and I came up with a better plan than before. It called for removal of a couple of switches and a redo of the main line as well but now the round house will actually work out with the trains not being hidden. Here is a pic of the current plan and the new redrawn plan. Let me know what you think. I will take and continue the track work with the new design. Yes there is a difference and loss of track but where I had a siding is now a double industrial spur which can hold up to 8 covered hoppers. A new small yard where there was a longer siding and movement of the packing plant so now I can spot cars infront of and not behind the building. As I lay the track a little tweaking will commence as I have already done with the precious section that has been laid.

Building of the Utah Silvermountain Sub

I have been working diligently on my layout now for several months and I am almost half way with the track laying. I now have an operational yard. I have also come up with a little more location info. I am now calling it the Silvermountain Sub of the Utah Railway. All freelanced of course except for the railroad name. Here is a couple of updated pics.

Either there has been a tornado, or you are indeed doing some serious work.

You would think a tornado hit it :). The corner without the tv is where a turntable and 6-9 stall round house will be. The round house is still in the boxes waiting to be built. Today I spent the day running feeder wires to most of the the area. Still have a couple of switches and a small curve to wire then I will lay some more track down. [IMG]

I wondered what UR was - University of Rochester? hah hah, where I am sending my daughter and a large chunk of my pay check!

Ok, now that I see it is Utah Railway, that changes things. I have 3 Atlas RSD4/5's painted for Utah RR and a growing collection of Union Pacific coal cars. Now if only Centralia would offer the UP cabooses painted for Utah Rwy!?
