I've got one of those MT 89'4" flats in the brown Trailer Train scheme that I'm considering repainting into something more modern. I was wondering, however, when that scheme was ever in effect. I know it was before the "old" yellow TT scheme, but how long ago? About what year was it first applied how long did it run?

p.s. I know some would recommend against the repaint [IMG], but nothing I have is being kept for "collector" purposes [IMG]

First off, it's your car, strip the thing if you want to! [IMG] Now, your first question: Look on the back of the box, it should say what year that car was in the brown paint and what year it was built. You should also find the built and rebuilt dates on the car. It will take a magnifier for poor eyes, but it should be there...I hope that helps! [IMG]

Russ, I have one of these brown cars. I have repainted it, but it is not yet decaled.

I also have one in Santa Fe lettering, but it will also be TT or TTX, when I have the time.

I had a look through my books on these cars today, but could find no mention of the color schemes or dates of these.

All the pictures I found are in Trailer Train yellow, or TTX yellow. I think the brown is quite old, probably sixties?

Thanks Alan, I think your right about the scheme being in the 60's.

I have the same assortment of MT 89 footers that I'm considering doing the TT & TTX schemes on (one I just finished into TTWX). Of course, all the hitches have to be adjusted for 45' vans [IMG] . But, I do have some extra hitches, left over from your kit, so they can be upgraded as well [IMG]

I also would like to strip my Brown TT flatcar. What is the best method to complete this task? Also, I have been disappointed with some of the smaller Micro Scale decals that I have used on my trailers, is there a need to be concerned with the sets for these cars. I hope decals would look good if it was running next to a factory painted car.

I didn't bother to strip mine, I just sprayed grey primer, then TTX yellow.

No problem with Microscale decals for these cars, except it will look a bit too clean [IMG] These cars are so intensively used, they never get cleaned! so should be weathered to make them look prototypical [IMG]
