Anyone here knows what has become of SD60M BNSF 9252? Last year this engine was one of the engines involed in a wreck at Hoxie Arkansas and subsequently ended up in a repair shop in Kansas City being rebuilt.
The newest photo I can find on the net is of January 2006. It's been several months since that picture was taken, and wondering if it's been repaired yet, or from a railfan perspective, did they leave it in it's BN scheme or repaint it into the new "Swoosh" scheme yet?

First off, welcome to Trainboard! As far as the disposition of the 9252, I have found no record of it. The damage in your pictures combined with the units age would indicate that the unit will get repaired. Due to the cosmetic damage, it would be logical it would be re-painted in the new as of Jan 2005 "swoosh" scheme. Technically because it is a comfort cab, it would recieve the Premium H3 like the ES44's and SD70 ACe's. That would be interesting as all I have seen is the standard swoosh applied to SD40-2's. Something to look forward to.

Any information regarding the accident this unit was involved in?

For some reason, I've been waiting a long time for a Heritage III SD60M. I'm not sure why, since Heritage I is my favorite BNSF scheme. Even though the colorful nature of modern BNSF, with dark green/orange, dark green/orange/yellow, black/orange, green/black, green/black/white, dark green/cream, dark blue/yellow and silver/red all to be found, is a boon to railfans, sometimes I just want to tell them "Repaint some more engines!" They seem to be really slow at it these days. It's been almost 10 years. Not only are examples of all predecessor schemes extant on merger day still running, but some don't even have BNSF sublettering.

AFIK, it is still at a contract facility being repaired. Sometimes it takes a while to get the needed repairs completed at such a place. I don't think it is slated to be painted in the new colors.

John, welcome to Trainboard. Thanks for the great pictures. I know Galesburg well and I am assumming that you are employed by either BNSF or GE to get nice close up shots like those. I just picked up a Life Like GP38-2 so thanks for the showing us the picture!

    Jim,

What's the difference between "Premium" H3 and "Standard" H3 you mention? If you have a link to the two, could you post it? I'll go looking on www.trainpix.com in the interim.

    Thanks!

The biggest difference is in the width of the stripe. Keep in mind these terms I toss out are railfan based, not BNSF based. The wide yellow stripes and large swoosh are considered the premium, examples are the SD70 ACe's and ES44's. The standard scheme has the thinner yellow stripes and smaller swoosh on the nose. The pictures posted by John, the GP38-2's are considered the standard scheme. Originally when BNSF introduced the original green and Orange "Premium" in 1997, it was to be applied to all new and present wide cab locomotives only. A few SD60M's had allready recieved a H1 by this time however. When BNSF changed the color from green to black in January 2005, the same rule applied, just different colors.

Thanks for clearing up the difference. It seems like it would have been cheaper to just standardize on one scheme though.

Looking at an example of an ACe and the posted GP, I also notice that there are two thin black stripes that run down the center of each of the yellow band/stripes that aren't there on the GP. I'd also say that the curvature of the yellow stripe is more pronounced on the GP (since I think it starts higher on the carbody).

    Thanks Jim!

Thanks. Nope, I live in Cedar Rapids. I just went over for the day to do a little railfanning with my four year old looking for some Cascade Green (I got some nice shots of 7500). Those shots are just across from the Depot facing 3006.

Cedar Rapids eh? I just came from Cedar Rapids a week ago. The local RC airplane club puts on a nice electric only RC event that my wife and I go to each year. Cedar Rapids is a nice town. We were also treated to a steady stream of railfan action on the way home via route 30. Too bad it was all UP, but trains are trains!

I used to work with a guy at Wabtec that said there was a good all electric RC plane show in town. I'll have to get there some time.

Yeah, I've spent quite a bit of time sitting at Beverly Yard watching UP go by with my 4 year old. While they do put on quite a show it's always nice to see BN/BNSF.
