BNSF has increased repainting their former ATSF B40-8s to a shockingly fast rate. After railfanning this weekend, I viewed 4: All Heritage I. Even though I feel the B40-8s look great in Heritage I, I am surprised of all the units being repainted. This is something that is uneccissary, as the B40-8s have excelent paint, and have already been renumbered to BNSF's series with BNSF initials. One would think this paint would be spent on units yet to be relettered or renumbered.

I saw BNSF 5412 leaving Barstow yard on a windy evening a couple of weeks back, pulling a string of autoracks bound for the Santa Fe Auto-Veyor Facility near Los Angeles---and what was the trailing unit? BNSF 8601 sporting it's new H1 "PUMPKIN" scheme : :. Although I'm not too keen of the H1 (or P1 as I call them) scheme, I'll admit that it was rather interesting to see it on a B40-8, as it didn't look too bad. One might even suggest I kinda liked it on that unit:cool :(thought it's STILL not better than the yel/blu warbonnet scheme :D). So now I wonder exactly, how many of these units have been painted at this time? And, since the old scheme wasn't in that bad of shape on those units overall, why are they being repainted?

I too, like the look of the B40-8's in yellow and blue, it suits them very well, and with them being in fairly good condition, I hoped they would stay like that awhile longer.

It is the B40-8W's which need repainting!
