this engine did start as a factory painted BNSF C44-9W. I did add a Kato AC4400CW front to get the right ditch lights and AC4400CW trucks.

the engine is fully detailed with BLMAmodels.com detail parts and painted with Badger Model flex water based paint.

weathered with several black, gray and rusty washes.

eBay ? what eBay ? and off you go... ;)

Really great, Steve. I am not up on the modern Kato models, but as factory painted, you did not paint the BNSF pumpkin scheme, right? Then you did the patch over that? Thanks. It sure is a lot of work.

Steve, you're amazing. Why don't you sell some of that tallent here on Trainboard so we can all get better at painting locos? You never cease to amaze me. Did the model come from a prototype photo or your imagination? Either way, it's great work again. Thanks for sharing!

    Oh that's a prototype all right...heheh :)

Steve, tell us about replacing the front. Did you have to use glue? ;)

Also, not to nitpick (aaaahh!) but was there a reason not to replace the whole cab to get the right side windows?

I cut the original pilot off and also parts of the handrail / walkway assembly, did the same with the AC4400CW pilot and "welded" it back on to the C44-9W sill with Tenax-7R

I haven't had the right AC4400CW shell to sloter, and the whole AC4400CW shell is built up totally different than the C44-9W and that would have been major surgery. (yeah I know - cheap excuses ! ;) - maybe next time...) we can only hope that Kato will release a new run C44-9W in BNSF colors, now they have changed the design for the C44-9W, then it would be much easier...

    thank you Ron... :)

it is actually from a prototype picture http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/pictures/5360/BNSF 4340 3382.jpg but don't have a too close look at the picture or you will see all the little errors I've made and you will also see that the prototype is much more weathered than the model... ;)

    Steve -

State of the art work, as usual!

I'll join in the call for a new release of the BNSF Dash-9, which should just be a gimme for Kato...

I've had several units like that, including the 4340. It always made me wonder what the cab looked like before the wreck repairs.....
