I might be there - the offer of a beer does make me think seriously about possibly attending - and of course the interesting model railways! Ben
We just returned from the show, and met Paul #2. My friend John and I sampled some of his SUPERB Belgian beer, as promised. But Matt could not have any, as we were about to leave, and he was driving The layout 'Ponca Yard' (HO) is excellent, with sounds as well as superb scenery, buildings, etc. Thanks for your hospitality, Paul, and we look forward to visiting you in Gent, one day Then we can do some serious beer tasting ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.alancurtismodels.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery
Nice going guys, I'm just a day late and a "pound"? short. I'm comming over on the 8th. Alan, BTW I'd like to get together with you, I'll be in London at the Park International Hotel untill the 13th. Please e-mail me this week-end if you and I and "stickymonk" can get together. I don't mind traveling to come to your place as I know you don't like to travel to London. Let me know, ok? Also what's the weather like now. Should I bring lots of warm clothing or light stuff could you let me know that as well? Thanks, ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine. Member #33
Alan, we were very sorry that you and your friend could only drink one beer and Matt nothing at all, so we could drink the rest of the beers ourselves At the end of the first day when the public was out we got a "spontaneous" applause from all exhibitors standing around us because all diesel sounds were turned off and so they could tune their ears back to normal!! We got a lot of very positive comments of the visitors. ------------------ Paul the 2nd Paul Van Herwegen HO Rappannahock Terminal Railway G Emerald Valley RR http://users.pandora.be/paul.van.herwegen/ [This message has been edited by Rappannahock Terminal (edited 07 November 2000).]
Paul the 2nd and Alan - in the end I couldn't make it to the Birmingham train show but I do hope that one day soon there will be another UK show where I can see some more really good American layouts. Incidentally the Gauge 0 Guild is having its annual American and European show in a couple of weekends time - unfortunately it is in Winchester which is not wildly convenient for me but if you (or anyone else on the 'board) would like more information and details please let me know. Ben

Paul, a couple of cases of that great beer would do nicely John Whitby, did you make it to the show? ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.alancurtismodels.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery
Alan, Paul Yes, I did make it to the show and thoroughly enjoyed it. The brilliant Ponca Yard was attracting so much attention that I couldn't get close enough to introduce myself and for health and safety reasons I decided to retreat to a safe location. Next time I will bring my ear-defenders because I am determined to sample that Belgium beer. Seriously though, Ponca Yard is a credit to all involved and the sound effects are really impressive. Despite the lack of Swiss layouts there was no shortage of suitable models for sale and I returned home many £££'s lighter .......but happy. John. ------------------ John Whitby See Swiss Trains at http://website.lineone.net/~john.p.whitby
