    Temp,

I note you mention the Zephyr. Perhaps I mis-heard, but I thought I'd been told Zenith. [[Is there such a thing?]] Either way, thank you for your comments. Food for thought. As commented earlier in this thread, it seems that any DCC is a lot better than no DCC. I'll study the arrangement you mention and, having seen on YOU TUBE some videos of models with sound, I must say it adds rather a lot to the enjoyment.

Yes, the name is Zephyr like the train, not Zenith like the television brand.

My only comments on N scale sound are that there is a definite relationship between price and quality. It is much harder to fit, much less get the acoustics correct in such a small space as compared to HO where sound is becoming almost standard. You might be paying $100 per locomotive to get sound you'll be happy with. There is also personal preference - after a few minutes I (personally) find diesel sound to just become a nuisance, since it doesn't relate directly to what the train is doing. Run more then one train and they all just mix together. Steam and traction are far more dynamic and interesting (sadly there is very little sound available for traction).

Well, ebay made me pull the trigger. I saw a post for the EZ Commander and the price was at 20 bucks. I tossed in a low final bid and low and behold... I won it for 47 bucks. It also comes with a HO 0-6-0 steam engine. While I plan on going n scale, having a test engine to play with and learn DCC can't be a bad thing.
Can't turn down a deal that good!
    wish me luck.... LOL
