You guys talk like Barstow is some where out there next to the moon. Ok...so it sort of resembles it.

Barstow for me was home for the first three years of my life. I thought that Barstow was the best thing going. That is what I can remember. My dad and his brother were raised in Barstow graduating from the Barstow Highschool. My grand parents lived there until granddad retired in 1962 from the Santa Fe railroad. Many a summer was spent in Barstow.

Barstow wasn't the most pleasant place to live. However, it's always been worth a overnight stop and a day or two of railfanning and possibly exploring Calico.

We do have a fledgeling railroad museum the Western American Railroad Museum W.A.R.M (and it is). We would appreciate your support. Stop by the Harvey House and check out some of the donated rail equipment and visit with the docents inside the museum where the air conditioning no doubt will be on.

I will try to get down off the mountain and trek into Barstow. Maybe I will see you there.

Oh I like Barstow, with pictures to prove it! It's just that we lived in Southern California for over 20 years and with a rare opportunity to visit lots of friends, we ARE getting the quizzical looks when we tell them all, sorry, we're spending the night in Barstow. :D

(Now is that a diehard railfan or what? ;) )

Hey Mike, sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread - that WAS a great picture (as are all of those you post!)

My best friend at Washington State University was from Barstow. I've been to Barstow on several occasions, and it really is a bathroom/factory outlet mall stop if you're not into trains. I can't get enough of the action in Barstow.

The same friend is getting married the second weekend in October, so I plan on being there from Thursday through Sunday. If anyone is up for meeting up on Friday or Sunday to watch some trains let me know.

    Great picture!

We made a visit to Barstow for a couple of hours during our tour of Southern California rails in 1998, but obviously did not find the best photo spots. :( Wish we had been on Yucca street bridge :)

    Terrific photo Mike
