Backdating turnout controls

What is the shape of the over-center spring? I am picturing an "S" or "Z" shape with a straight tail on both ends. One end bent up about .100" long, the other tail bent down about .5" long to go into the table.
    <<<<

Close. It is V shaped with one long leg 1.5" long and the other about .1". You have it right.

Loosening ballast or paint doesn't concern me. I don't ballast the throw bar area anyway. When I use the Caboose Industries ground throws, it looks like the prototype. The centering spring in the track doesn't. As I said, it works, I just don't like it.

The little "s" spring is the critical part it seems. Some force against the rail by the moved point rail is all that will prevent a "split the turnout" accident.
    Yes/No?
    <<<<

You are correct. The spring tension is the critical part. I could hide it by working from under the table, but I'll just stay with the CI throws.

Thanks Roger, maybe I'll give it some more thought. A "V" shape you say? Hummmm!
