All, Who here would purchase a RICHMOND LOCOMOTIVE WORKS 4-4-0 if BACHMANN produced it in N-SCALE? Two anyone else here besides me have had enough of BACHMANN producing their OLD- TIME Version of the 4-4-0? This is out of curiosity of course . Tom
Probably I would not buy one. Despite that, the plastic box issue B-mann eight wheelers are vastly improved over the originals and intermediate issues. Some of the very last issue Bachpersonn cardboard box eight wheelers were not bad, either, but, I do not know how to tell those from the intermediates. The plastic box issues are a good bet, though. Keep in mind that you should avoid running these over plastic frog turnouts.
I have had a number of them and one of the main issues was the lack of a front coupler. Way back when I solved that by retofitting an MT steam pilot with coupler that is no longer made. I even followed a kit bash that combined two locos into a 4-6-0 which would climb a wall. Then things started to go south on me. One after another the loco all developed metal deterioration of the tender trucks. I ordered some replacement tender wheel assemblies from Bmann only to have it happen again. Then Atlas made their 4-4-0 and the Bmanns hit the trash. A far superior loco but still without a front coupler.
