I have an Athearn light Mikado I bought a long time ago with intentions of painting/decaling it as a Pere Marquette MK-1. I can predict that I'll also need to replace the main drive gear. I was wondering if I might be further ahead to just ebay the Athearn locomotive and buy the Bachmann version already done for PM. Does anyone have one of these Bachmann locos? Any thoughts on them?
I've got a Southern 4501 . Just ran it on a test track so far ,but it is very smooth and quiet .....Mike
I have two of the Athearn 2-8-2s, they have a hard time just pulling their shadow. Don't have an incline! I would ebay the Athearn, and go with the Bachmann. At least those have some weight.
