Hello all TCS has a very good tutorial on how to install one of their dcc decoders on a Bachmann GP40: https://tcsdcc.com/installation/n-scale/2093 I have the exact same engine, and was wondering if another decoder could be easily installed as well, knowing which traces to cut from the tutorial For example an ESU Lokpilot micro V5 DCC #59820? Thanks
yes, you can stick any of the ESU micro LokPilots in there, just make sure you note which wire goes to which pad (the TCS instructions don't identify the pads, but the decoder matches the standard 6-pin config)
So looking at the tutorial and the decoder's instruction, it seems as follow: It seems to make sense for the top 3 pins since the board says "M+", "M-", "R" It' just more confusing for the 3 other pins though....!!!
Yeah, using “L” gets confusing. The plain L is left track (black), and the others have the “-“ because they are the negatives for the lights. Most others put FL and RL, rather than L and BL (back)
Yes, that is the NEM651 standard (6 pin). http://sbs4dcc.com/tutorialstipstricks/nem651connectorhalfwaverectification.html
By the way, I purchased the ESU Lokpilot Micro V5 dcc #59820 a few weeks ago, and it seems to have more cables than what I could see on the image of the website where I bought it...... Is this normal? Or could it be a different model #?
Totally normal. Green is Aux1, violet Aux2, pink Aux 3 and turquoise Aux 4 (doing from memory, and may have reversed the last two)
Well, I've finally equipped my Bachmann GP40 with a decoder, but not the ESU.....I used a Digitrax DZ126T It went well, and it worked right away. The TCS website was very helpfull
