    Hello all-

I saw on ebay a few of the G scale items on ebay that are bachmann.... they are for sale on The Favorite Spot..... I was wanting to know how good they are...... if any one has any info on them at all... i would like to know, it looks like it would be a great way to start a garden railway, but not dish out a fortune right now. Thanks to every one.

I did look for these on E Bay but am not real sure which one's they are  . Here is what I know from experience. Bachmann broke into the large scale industry in a BIG way and from the beginning they have been quite good. I have several pieces and have never been disappointed. Tough? You bet. My sets have survived four boys, dirt, dust and the horrors of long-term storage. Problems? I find the cars too light and the Bachmann track (early stuff anyway) really poor. Buy the engines/rolling stock and go to someone like LGB for track.

There seem to be some very good prices on Bachmann out there right now. At least in G scale, and On30. Might be a good time to consider some purchases. Hope it stays this way, long term!

BUY NOW guys, this is the E-Bay August sales slump. Definately a buyers market. It actually started early because of the business in the Middle East with Lebanon :(

Christmas market is just around the corner. Things should pick up again in a couple of weeksd (read: prices will rise again).

Bachman engs & cars fine, track only good for inside, will rust instantly outside once wet. Suggest you invest in Aristocraft track & LGB switches.

One good reason for using Bachmann is that you could get into large scale with fairly reliable equipment without paying an arm and a leg. Is that beginning to change a little bit, though? B-mann is coming out with some new 1:20.3 freight cars with an $80-$90 street price. Thanks to eBay, inexpensive Bachmann stuff will be around for quite a while.

Now certainly isn't the time for them to rachet up prices. Everyone is broke from summer, back to school, etc.

I'd expect you will find good deals from reputable discounters. Not need to pay that much for your cars.

Looking for good buys in G guage? I am moving and have to sell all my trains. I have new and used Bachman, Aristocraft, Roundhouse, New Bright (all track powered), and MRC trains and accessories. I will have 8 tables full at the train show at Rockome Gardens in Arcola, IL next weekend 9/23 & 24. selling cheap. Call and come by this week I might have what you are looking for. 217-317-9438.
Rockome has one of the largest garden railroads in the midwest. I built it for them in 1993 - 1995.

I have had great luck with my Bachmann set. There are several low-cost sound upgrades available, and the smoke system is great! You will want to add weights to the lead truck, to prevent de-railing at switches. Check here for some great upgrades for this loco.

    Bach-man

I have been using the Bach-Man G scale second addition and the anniversary locomotives for some time and found them to be great. Look at the process on Ebay, you can get a good 4-6-0 with sound for $150 counting shipping, have you seen the price of HO locomotives lately? Bigboys going for $400 + !!!!!!! here is a shot of my favorite loco, old number 7, she has been heavy detailed and runs great, DCC installation was a bit of fun though, as Bach-man clams there DCC ready. HHmmmfff!!!!!! DCC ready should not involve complete disassembly of the locomotive!

Ok, so other than having to take the whole thing apart, no complicated rework was required, was it? I mean, is there anything like a common frame ground on the motors, or some type of hideous electrical problems to overcome, ise there?

    rework....

I had to re wire mostof it. One lead on the motor to the drivers was a bit short. Then I stuck thesmoke unit on a function switch and wired the headlights up to the DCC unit. I also add electrical pickups tothe thenders wheels for beter operation.

eeee...wel...It was prety--much a redo, Itjust seemedto me that DCC redyment a simple socket. If this is what you call DCC redy, Then its also redy for a Chvey 350 with a holy carb.......

I just worry. I have a loco in N scale, and yes, the size is much much different, and yes size does matter, but this small loco was not able to be easily converted to DCC because of the way the motor is tied to the frame which is tied to the lights which is tied to the ........

This sounds signifigantly more possible than that little loco.

    Thanks!

    re wire.....

Yes the G scale Bachman motors are isolated from the frame, only connected electrically by wires so its not to hard to do, (Seems that there electrical engineer has a really different idea behind his madness). that is once you figure out Bachman

I do not believe that any Bachmann Big Hauler or Anniversary 4-6-0locomotives are advertised as DCC ready, only the Bachmann Spectrum line are advertised as being DCC ready.

    Discount Prices on Large Scale

I buy my Large Scale supplies such as rolling stock, locos, detail parts, etc on-line from Trainworld and Ridge Road Station. They are very reliable, are very well stocked and treat you like you're the only customer they have; And they are priced from 30% to 40% below MSRP on products from Bachmann, LGB, and others. If I had to rely on some of the LHSs that sell for MSRP, I couldn't afford to be in this hobby. If you order from Trainworld, it is best to phone in your order.

But it shoulnt be entirely too difficult to add DCC to any locomotive that doesnt have the aforementioned common grounding chassis like that little N-scaler of mine, right?

I just put NCE D13SR decoders in two big hauler locos. 1.3 amp rating seems to be enough. Also am running both off the inexpensive powercab.
