I know there have been posts about coupler conversions on the older Bachmann 2-8-0. I am looking to see if anoney has done one on the newer releases. I don't like the existing coupler on the tender. I read where you could use a MT 905 or 2004. Neither will fit in the coupler pocket on the tender. I would like to know what mods you needed to do and how you went about installing the new coupler.

    Thanks

Did Bachmann redo the tender on these? I thought they were the same as on the original. Anyone know for sure?

There might be a misunderstanding: "Neither will fit in the coupler pocket on the tender". That is true. On my 2-8-0, light mountain and heavy mountain the coupler pocket looks alike. To mount a 2004 it must be removed and the new coupler must be placed under the plain tender floor, drilling and tapping a mounting hole through the tender floor.
That is what I did with my engines, except for the heavy mountain where I used a MTL #1133 or 1134 coupler which is designed as a direct replacement part for the Bachmann Rapido couplers. These are basically the old T-shank replacement couplers with a new coupler pocket that fits into the original Bachmann mounting holes in the tender floor. These old T-shank couplers (part numbers 1128 / 1129 /1130) don't work so smoothly for magnetically uncoupling, but coupler height is perfect and it works well on my engine.
