Anyone (thinking Atlas) Ever produce one of these in N-Scale?

What was their Purpose on a Passenger Train, or did they bring up the rear on the Auto-Carriers?

I don't think that anyone has made that caboose, and my guess would be that it was a place for the car unloading crew to ride

I don't think we'll have one from a major manufacturer, but I did make one in Shapeways. It was my first Shapeways model so a couple of things didn't turn out right on my test print. Mostly it's a solid model it just needs some tweaks before being made for public consumption.

About the time you find yourself saying that didn't happen or they didn't have one. Someone will show up with a photo and blow the former theory right out of the water. I was pretty sure
cabooses by then were a thing of the past.

Regarding the Auto Train Caboose. It's not likely, unless someone drops in for a visit with a N scale Auto Train in tow, that you will ever see it on my layout. Oh by the way, no one has shown an interest in visiting my layout as of late. That's ok the place is a mess.

To prove my point: I was looking through a Trains wig wag and found to my interest Santa Fe FP45's pulling of all things a HW RPO car. On the front end of the inaugural Super C. Someone had
just finished telling me the FP45, came along after the HW's had disappeared. So what does that have to do with the Auto Train...nothing? Does it make my point?

That Test Print looks pretty neat and would make a nice model

Well, at first I was going to say that was the first time I ever saw a wide-vision caboose on passenger car trucks.

But now I'm going to say, what the hell is that? A bi-level auto rackoose?

I think that car can safely go in the 'stranger than fiction' category. Too bad the really unique equipment didn't survive until Amtrak took over the service... I've been on the Auto-Train a few times, and would have loved to see an odd duck like that.

Fun and useless trivia...pictured above is [caboose] Auto Carrier #3....which IS the unit in Ventura, which happens to appear in the background of this rather famous music video at the 1:05 mark (don't blink!)

    -Mike

Edit To Add: Someone else in another part of the internet found that in the video. Was too cool a find not to mention ;)

Thanks alot, tehachapi !!! And I consider that to be "newer" Aerosmith. Guess I'm gonna' hobble over to the stereo and put in "Toys in the Attic". May have to stop and rest a couple times on my way !!! BTW, I still have it on 8-track, too !!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
