I was looking at the numbers for the new model and decided to see what photos were online to compare the model to the real thing for detailing, etc. and found this photo of 2177- http://archive.trainpix.com/BNSF/EMDORIG/GP38X/2177D.HTM

I think i'll stick with #2158! I don't want to decal that plow... Where in the world did it get that? [IMG]

BTW I haven't seen these in person but they look really nice.

That plow shouldn't be too hard to do, give it a shot! Notice the new nose headlight? That was done after it was repainted. It smessed up the herald!

Brent - the paint is not a problem. Back to BN green and black and it will be as good as new! Oh, yeah... put the light back where it belongs, too. [IMG]

T-man - are you modelling in HO? That plow can be done blind-folded, dude. Use the BN decals you should have bought (to do the nose when painted in the correct colours) to do the barricade stripes. Looks about the same stripe width and spacing.

Is this one of those units that had red and white stripes while in BN colors? I don't think any of the other pics of that particular unit show it like that...

    I'm confused! [IMG]

About the nose, i wonder if X-acto makes a chisel blade the right width? Has anyone modeled the nose light yet? How'd anyone do it?

Oh yeah, the things you notice the second time you look at a photo! It still has the class lights though. Messing up the nose herald shouldn't be too hard to do when the nose light gets done on the model!

for some reason i can't link to the sight.if the plow on the engine is red and white striped it was painted that way for the santa train one year and they never painted it back to the original color.hopfully i can get to the link to confirm this.ok looking at my bnsf 98/99 motive power annual page 23 shows the 2177 leading the christmas train.if you think the plow is hard to do,try putting all of the lights on it.and if youre that good do the train.the pepperstick lighted tank car would be neat.hope this helps.got the link to work and yes it is the engine.....

Get the No.11 (narrow type) chisel blades and hit the bench grinder to trim the width down. I usually get a pack of 5 and do them in varying widths. I also use an expensive Japanese made chisel of around 2.4mm width - beautiful to use and heavy.
Nose headlights are easy to do. Just have a set of jewellers files handy. I first drill the aperture out close as I dare to the finished hole and using a designers knife (a finer bladed X-Acto type available from art suppliers - ask for the OLFA brand) trim out the hole and finish with the files. I do these lights often in N with no problems, so larger scales would be easier. Just be careful and take your time.
