Any truth to the rumor that Atlas is coming out with their own DCC system, or was that just the sound of a fish hook down by gullible mouth? Ed Harrison
I have heard the same thing. Sounds like a bad market to get into, if they truly are going to. If you think about it, there are 4 leaders, and they will most likelly reamin the leaders because they are established with many people, and clubs. They seem to be (not sure on exact numbers, so I may be incorrect) MRC, Digitrax, Lens, and EasyDCC. There are others, but they seem to be the leaders. With Atals coming out with something it would only flood the arket more, maybe to a point where it could drive smaller, and most likelly 'better' comapnies out of business. Not a good thing. Just what I think of the matter. Also, there was discussion of it at the Atlas forum Happy Railroading!! Dane N. ------------------ BC Rail King TAMR2860@Canada.com for TAMR info. Paul (from Atlas) has pointed out that Atlas is a business, with bidders and contracts, and a bottom line. My guess is that Atlas won't reinvent the wheel, but contract with someone to let them put the Atlas logo on someone else's design. Hasn't Atlas contracted with both Digitrax and Lenz for decoders in the past? Ed Harrison
From a business standpoint, it must make sense to the bottom line. If one of, if not the largest mfg in the model RR business wants to market DCC, you can bet they did their due diligence. That being said, I think it's good for DCC. The more people see DCC in front of them the more likely they will buy it. And the more likely the prices will come down. And the more likely hobby shops will carry a larger inventory. You get the picture. It's very hard to market a new product if you're the only one selling it. If every store in town has one, the buying public is more likely to react positively. ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine.
However, if they start making there engines come only ready for an Atals decoder, I will not be a happy camper! Happy Railroading!! Dane N. ------------------ BC Rail King TAMR2860@Canada.com for TAMR info. BCRailKing@Canada.com

Ed Harrison

Yes, I know in N scale that is true. One of their first efforts at DCC was the GP40-2, which was available with a Digitrax decoder. The SD50/60/60M's were available with Lenz decoders. Chessie
