Two stealthy CSX units, both at Montgomery, AL and both with blue fuel tanks and trucks. From 02/1989, CSX U-18B 1977, former CR 7892/PC 7892 From 05/1989, CSX GP-40-2 6413. Judging by that pilot, I'd guess she's former B&O
Don't believe I have ever seen an extension on the throttle like the one pictured. Paint makes it look like it has been used for quite some time.
From 07/13/2008 at Cumberland MD, CSX SD-60I 8743 (former CR 5630) is on the move toward Sand Patch. The I stands for "Isolated" Cab; CR was the only buyer of this option.
Cartersville GA - Dec. 21 2024 - Lighting is terrible at this spot in the morning but one takes what one can get.
They look good despite the light. There are numerous locations in my area as well where an overcast or cloudy day yields the best light. Problem is that I'm less likely to be out trying to find trains in that kind of weather.
September 2015 at Weddell, SC on the former SAL mainline. I miss the old SAL signals, replaced by "Vaders" as a result of PTC. Note too the dwarf to protect the siding. Into the late 1970s, 15 passing sidings remained in place in the 113 miles between Hamlet and Columbia on this line, a legacy of the many SAL trains that once used this route. Only a handful of sidings remain today to allow locals to run around their trains.
From February 1984 at Montgomery AL, former L&N U30C 1484 leads and Clinchfield SD-45-2 3617 is behind. The SBD existed as a railroad until 1986, but it's a CSX heritage road, so I'll post the shot here.
April 1984 at Montgomery. SBD GP-40 6742, former SCL 1587. The trainshed remains at Montgomery, along with its beautiful Union Station.
October 1984 at Montgomery, AL, the Selma Job heads out past the ICG's Bell Street Tower. The 511 is a former SCL GP-38-2.
