The artical says those seats have 23 inches of space between them and the seat in front. I'm thicker than that so either no flying for me or an expensive up charge. :(

Looking at the position required, I can state that I would not be able to fly. Or use this if it were on a train, should some fool try it there. I will bet that many with back problems find it extremely painful.

Looks to me like just a new excuse for playing with fares.

Looks like another good excuse to NOT FLY! Right now, if I can't drive to "it" I don't go.

Maybe they're in cahoots with the Chiropractic association and the Society of Orthopedic Surgeons to drum up business?

That looks like it would hurt like heck, but my wife would probably just remind me that I need to do more core work and lose weight instead of expecting people to accommodate me.

    She's mean like that ;)

The airlines are already cramming as many people as possible in their planes as is- the \whole flying experience is getting more & more unpleasant.:thumbs_down:

Hmmmmm. Now you have me wondering. :tb-wacky:

Oh well. I do have a few pounds which could be eliminated. But that would not change the relationship between forced posture and pain.

Someone commented elsewhere how airplanes were becoming more and more like flying buses. With these seats crammed in, some may go back to choosing a bus as being more deluxe!

As is, unless I've no need for a vehicle at any destination, so I could take the train, I will simply continue to drive. Then I can stop at my leisure, take pictures of railroading, old buildings and enjoy freedom to explore.... Until that becomes illegal.

Dang, the last time I sat in a seat like that I was living in Tucson in the late '40s. Oh Yeh, I was also sitting on a roan, wearing boots, and a silly looking "cowboy hat". Actually, no self-respecting cowboy would have worn it. At the tender age of 11, I thought that a hat with a pork-pie crown look neat..:tb-embarrassed:
This concept is just one more reason to take the train, regardless of where it goes. :tb-cool:

Only twenty three inches? Even if I went on a major diet and became a walking skeleton, the distance from the back of my hipbone to my knee when I am sitting is right about 23 inches.

    What chance do I have?

They sure are forcing people to find other means of travel. Train, Bus, or drive yourself. But to pay the Airline prices to be tortured........I think NOT!

    Try itin a wall-sit. they aren't sitting, it's a hemmoroidic standing squat.

Mr. Skinnybutt here can apporximate that pose in 15". It's also quite uncomfortable without a chair to sit on when doing it. Which then rasies the question of who the "seat" height is set at? anyone too tall is going to miss the pad or have to put their knees into the "seat" ahead of them, and anyone who's shorter than it is going to be perched on the edge.

And the next phase will be strap-hangers like New York and Tokyo subways. It'll be great until you hit turbulance, then you get to know your neighbor real well....:tb-ooh:
