Yikes. I'd think putting some money into the track would be cheaper than when that Geep rolls of into the trees!
Who needs a roller coaster? I was also kind of intrigued by the CSX unit in the opening; long hood forward with alternating ditch lights...neat!
Wow. I know telephoto lenses distort the rails, but that doesn't seem to be the case here, watching that light engine rock 'n roll.
Found out after I'd posted this is the ex-Maumee & Western track. Even more deteriorated, and a different operator. Supposedly they have by now done some track work. Also alleged to have been seeking shippers. Quite a project it would seem.
Dang!!! Made me nervous just watching! I bet the engineer aged some everything he used that rail.. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I remember when I was young, listening to my desktop railroad scanner and hearing C&NW crews call that "they were going into the rock and roll" or "going out of the rock and roll". This was in an era of low joints on bad track and crews were instructed to not run trains at speeds in the mid-teens that invited harmonic motion which invited cars to sway back and forth and tumble off the rail. They spent as little time in the "rock and roll" speed as they could. I read later that this phenomenon was why the PC went into a rapid decline. As track conditions got worse, PC was forced from being a 25 MPH railroad to a 10 MPH railroad, as trains could not be safely operated at 15 to 20 MPH. My how things have changed. These days I can't even think of chasing trains on most local lines. Superb track and a bit of highway traffic makes them impossible to catch.
