Over the next decade, the DASH 9 proved to be extremely popular over its production span with over 3,500 locomotives being sold new to Santa Fe, BC Rail, BNSF, Canadian National, Chicago & North Western, Norfolk Southern, (including 100 standard cab equipped versions, nicknamed “Top Hats”), QNS&L, Southern Pacific, and Union Pacific. Thanks to its long production span and customer options, small detail differences could be noted between various customer orders. This includes changes with HVAC system vendors (the large “A/C” box behind the cab on the conductor's side), number board placement, headlight placement, engine cab profile, radiator lifting lugs, hood end, trucks, fuel tank, stepwells, operator’s cab, and even handrail profiles. ABOUT THE MODELS: Our latest run includes many of these production and road-specific variations. For example, we’re offering both Union Pacific and Chicago & North Western versions with nose-mounted number boards for the first time. We’re also offering Canadian National as-delivered and late versions which both include CN’s signature “Tear Drop” cab window configuration. In addition, late CN versions feature deck-mounted ditch lights with visors and integral red marker lights. The often requested BNSF Railway Heritage I paint scheme is also included in this run.
